Viagra ingredients

Most of the patients taking this or that medication want to know what it’s made up of – not only out of sheer curiosity but also because they need to be aware of the substances they are allergic to or consider to be potentially dangerous. Viagra is no exception here. With ‘Viagra ingredients’ being a very, very popular search query in all search engines, we feel it’s time to shed some light on it and list all the substances that the little blue pill is made of.

In fact, when talking about Viagra, the only one of its ingredients that you really need to be aware of is Sildenafil Citrate – the core and the only active element in Viagra. It is a citrate salt of Sildenafil – a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). This substance is what the effect of Viagra is due to. The amount of it contained in every pill depends on the strength of this pill. For instance, a 50 mg Viagra tablet contains exactly 50 milligrams of Sildenafil Citrate. Brand-name Viagra comes in the strengths of 25, 50 and 100 mg and its generic versions also come as 40 mg and even 200 mg tablets.

Of course, apart from Sildenafil Citrate, there are a few other substances that can be found in a Viagra tablet – i.e. its inactive ingredients. The full list of those is as follows:

  • - microcrystalline cellulose,
  • - anhydrous dibasic calcium phosphate,
  • - croscarmellose sodium,
  • - magnesium stearate,
  • - hypromellose,
  • - titanium dioxide,
  • - lactose,
  • - triacetin,
  • - FD & C Blue #2 aluminum lake

Even though the above ingredients are considered to be fairly neutral and harmless, we still recommend you to go through this list to check for any potential allergies or interactions with other drugs. Also, do the same with Sildenafil – this substance is known to not be tolerated well in people with certain health conditions. Sildenafil should also not be taken along with other meds used to treat erectile dysfunction, along with nitrite drugs used to treat angina (chest pain) or along with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Alcohol and fatty foods should also be avoided at the time when you are taking Viagra.

Review

Although my doctor says 50 mg sildenafil pills are good enough for me, I'm taking the 100 mg when I want some really good time. Well, not that the 50 mg pills can't get me hard at all, they do work but I always feel that I can go limp any moment and sometimes I actually do. I know that 100 mg may be too much and there may be some side effects but so far it's been going great. Except for runny nose, that's what really gets on my nerves. One day I should try vardenafil or tadalafil, maybe they don't cause that stuff.
